Lingering fall

Nebraska is on its way to the grey and brown of winter as the wind and rain have performed their usual service of denuding the trees of leaves.  But a few hardy, stubborn limbs continue to display the survivors of summer to brighten up the landscape in the low, weak sunset.  I’m sure someone has a scientific calculation that can predict which trees will change color when all the way to the day where the leaves are all gone, but for me it’s more fun to just wander around and discover a few of these treasures on my own.  Of course it helps to have good light, which in this case was just at sunset with the light filtered through low clouds.  Isn’t it great how nature can give us little things to appreciate in the midst of the coming big sleep…
