Winter colors

It’s only January but the local botanical garden has opened a display of flowers to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the book “The Secret Garden.”  With all the snow on the ground and in huge piles around the roads, a little foretaste of spring is a pleasant reminder that seasons do change.

Many of the flowers were bulbs and shrubs that have been forced to bloom early by the gardeners, set out in pots arranged in garden paths and cul-de-sacs for patrons to stroll through and get a small sense of a formal English garden.  There is a nice profusion of colors and flower varieties, but I enjoy the simple ones the most, flowers in the form easy for children to draw and color.
