Macro imitates micro

Shapes in the world occur because of a reason, usually some physical or chemical process that arranges things in a certain way to minimize energy or avoid structural conflict.  If you start looking around, it seems nature is conservative in this regard – some shapes get reused.  In the images below, the snow is mostly on the middle of the limbs and twigs, highlighting the shape of the branch in its simplest form.  Looking at these today I realized how this particular tree’s arrangement resembles the shape of snowflakes.  What’s ironic is I probably wouldn’t have noticed it or thought about it had the snow not outlined it so visibly.  From snowflake to tree, similar and recognizable patterns.

What shapes do you see nature reusing?
